Vision and Values
Our wish is to promote a healthy attitude within the community in relation to death and dying through example and education. Our mission is to provide compassionate hospice services to the members of our community who are affected by death and dying.
The vision and values of the Fountain Hospice Service are based on the universal philosophy of love and compassion, which is found in all religions and cultures.
Our philosophy encompasses:
- understanding of the preciousness of all life
- the unique value of each individual
- compassionate service to others
- empowerment of the individual to understand and come to terms with the end of life
- responsibility for the well-being, both physical, mental and emotional, of our clients and community.
Death, as a natural part of life, is often ignored and shunned until we come face to face with it. We believe that death need not be a traumatic and stressful experience for the individual or their loved ones, and we aim to assist in preparing people for the process of dying. The Fountain Hospice aims to nurture and promote a healthy and supportive community where death, dying and bereavement can be openly discussed and accepted.
We put our philosophy into practice through:
- at-home hospice services focusing on holistic client-centred care
- community and professional education programs on end of life issues
- community participation
- hospital/general practitioner/community services collaboration.
Our staff and volunteers come from diverse faiths and spiritual traditions but all share the universal ideals of compassion, loving kindness, equanimity and respect for the beliefs of others.
