Complementary Therapies
Many people affected by illness are now using one or more types of complementary therapy. Although much of this activity takes place in the private sector here in Australia, provision within the orthodox healthcare system is limited.
We wish to provide complementary therapy to palliative patients with the aim to help improve 'quality of life', relieve physical symptoms and to ease emotional reactions to illness. These benefits, now supported by a considerable body of evidence, may be due to a specific effect of a particular therapy, and partly to general features: providing extra time and attention, offering more opportunity for active participation and choice, bringing positive meaning to the experience of illness.
Our patients may choose to try more than one kind of therapy, at different times in the course of their illness. We would create a holistic treatment programme centred around the individual and their family.
People who benefit most from these approaches are those who take the initiative and responsibility to seek out a programme of therapies to support them through the changes in their life.
The complementary therapies that we offer include:
- Homeopathy
- Aromatherapy
- Reflexology
- Shiatsu
- Massage
- Kinesiology
- Holistic counselling
- Nutritional advice
- Spiritual healing through meditation and relaxation practices
Our practitioners are registered within their professions.
Please contact the hospice for more information about the complementary therapies and to arrange for an assessment in order for us to create a holistic therapeutic programme for you and your family.
